I read a recent article about the importance of nature in children's daily lives. Many movies geared toward children have trees, or a mother tree, as a sacred entity.

My daughter loves/loved climbing and sitting in the trees that are now being cut down, one of which is already in pieces on Rancho Park Field. The fence around the area is screened, but one does not need a clear view to sense the absence of something that was there before, it is like a phantom limb. The two remaining canopy trees that now are separated by a fence, have their branches intermingled, reminding me fingers interlaced. They have been that way for many, many years, their roots run deep, and have purpose beyond what we can see.

My daughter does not play soccer, she is not interested in soccer. My daughter likes climbing trees, riding her bike, dancing, and doing cartwheels in the grass. I am sad, and she is sad that this is happening to this special park.

These are my sentiments.
