Rancho Park News - Expo Authority To Award Construction Contract for Phase 2 of the Expo Line

Now it is official. For the portion of the Expo Line that starts in Culver City and runs through Cheviot Hills, Rancho Park, West LA to Santa Monica, the MTA's Expo Authority will award the design-build contract to  Skanska/Rados a joint venture involving Skanska USA Civil West, a subsidiary of Skanska USA, and Steve P. Rados Inc., based in Santa Ana. The contract is expected to be officially awarded at the March 18 Expo Authority board meeting.

An initial review had raised questions about cost, safety and hiring on other projects involving Skanska USA-related companies. It seems for the Expo folks, those concerns are water under the bridge (excuse the infrastructure pun) as a further investigation concluded there were no problems big enough to derail the awarding of this contract (just can't help myself).  The Los Angeles Times has the whole story.

As I posted earlier this week, once the contract is awarded there will be some upcoming community meetings to address issues including whether the Westwood station will have a parking lot, the scope of the Casden development project at Sepulveda and if that station will have at-grade crossing or have an arial crossing instead. There should be more news on that in the coming weeks.

Doesn't matter what the community meetings do, this project is just going to shove through.  I don't mind there being rail to take us downtown and to Santa Monica.  I do mind that it's going to be way over budget, have a myriad of problems, and they are going to shove it down our throats the way it is rather than try to make it less painful for this really nice neighborhood.
